6. The carbon dioxide used in the light-independent reactions
comes from the air surrounding the leaf. It enters the leaf via the stomata
then circulates around the spongy mesophyll cells before entering them to then
move to the chloroplasts. At this point it diffuses to the stroma where it enters
this series of reactions.
