17. Plants of temperate climates that do C3 photosynthesis do not grow well in hot tropical or arid climates because they have no means to continue both the light dependent reactions and the Calvin cycle at a high rate, so little sugar will be created. Whether they leave the stoma open or closed, they are unable to fix enough carbon dioxide into organic molecules. In addition, if they leave the stoma open, they will lose too much water to transpiration.
