14. The process of photorespiration involves a competition between CO2 and O2 for the active site on the enzyme Rubisco, which catalyzes the fixing of CO2 into organic molecules during the Calvin cycle. During photorespiration, the O2 bonds to the active site of Rubisco & prevents CO2 from binding to it, which thus slows down photosynthesis because less CO2 is "fixed" and thus less sugar will be made!
