7. Three disadvantages of performing genetic screening include:
a) A genetic underclass may be created. People who use screening to find out they have a genetic disease may face discrimination from employers, insurance companies and married partners.
b) The rate of abortion may increase as people discover a fetus has a genetic disease. The parents may choose to terminate the fetus rather than let its development continue so that it won't suffer. Some people believe such actions would be unethical.
c) A person who uses genetic screening may discover they have a genetic condition which could at some point in the future have debilitating effects. Such persons could become depressed or suffer from other harmful psychological effects.
