6. Three advantages of performing genetic screening include:
a) Parents who carry genes that cause a genetic disease can choose not to have children, or choose a partner who has been screened and is found to not be a carrier of the gene. This would mean fewer children with genetic diseases would be born.
b) Couples who might both be carriers of a genetic disease could use invitro fertilization to produce embryos. This process screens the embryos, and only those who lack the genetic disease could be selected for implantation.
c) Fetuses or young children can be screened for genetic diseases. If diagnosed early enough, children with a genetic disease could receive treatment which might prevent some or all of the symptoms of the disease!
