24. The social implications of AIDS include the following:

a) Sexual activity of individuals in a population may decrease because of the fear of aids.

b) Individuals infected with aids may face discrimination and not find housing, insurance, or employment. They may not be accepted by their community.

c) When infected individuals die, their families and friends suffer grief.

d) If the infected person is the primary wage earner, the family loses income if the infected person loses their job via job discrimination or becomes to ill to continue working, or upon death, the family loses income.

e) Babies born with AIDS require extensive, expensive care.
