22. AIDS is transmitted via transfer of body fluids from an infected person to one who is uninfected. Modes of transmission of AIDS include:

a) Sexual contact: through cuts or tears in the vagina, penis, mouth or intestine during vaginal, anal or oral sex.

b) Across the placenta from mother to baby. Through cuts during childbirth. Through milk during breast-feeding.

c) Via blood transfusions using blood of infected individuals which hasn't been screened. Hemophiliacs are especially at risk.

d) Via traces of infected blood in hypodermic needles shared by intravenous drug abusers, or by innocent people poking themselves accidently when handling infected needles.
