Eriophyllum lanatum from The Dome, Newberry Crater Volcanic National Monument.

Sunflower Family
Characteristics:
1. Numerous flower heads, each with a dime-sized yellow central disk surrounded by 8-14 yellow ray flowers (See photo below).
2. The upper stem leaves are linear, but the lower leaves are pinnately dissected.
3. The leaves and stems are covered with gray, woolly hairs.

Habitat:
Open, dry places from the lowlands to above timberline.
Importance:
It is a pretty wildflower for drier, sunny gardens.
