#44. Woods forget-me-not

Characteristics:

1. Woods Forget-me-not arises from the ground as a multi-stemmed plant, often with stems that can't fully support their weight. They range from one-half to 2 feet in height.

2. The stems and leaves are often covered with tiny, stiff hairs.

3. The flowers are small, to 1/4 inch wide, with 5 rounded petals surrounding a whitish or yellowish central "eye". When viewed from above, they look like a 5-pointed star with rounded tips.


Habitat:

Moist, shady places.


Importance:

1. It is a weed that has escaped and often crowds out native wildflower species.

2. It is often used as a planted flower in gardens.
