Mustard Family


Characteristics:

1. Rough Wallflower arises as a single stemmed plant and is 6 to 30 inches tall.

2. The leaves are numerous on the stems, and are long and thin, often with wavy or toothed edges.

3. The flowers are typical for mustards. There are 4 petals, which look like an X or cross when viewed from above. The petals are either a bright yellow or yellowish-orange.

4. After pollination, the petals fall off, and a long, thin seed pod elongates out of the flower.


Habitat:

Rough Wallflower typically lives in drier areas, often in the open or on lightly wooded slopes.


Importance:

1. Rough Wallflower is a very pretty flower in the wild. It also has a very nice fragrance.

2. Many domestic wallflowers are sold for use in home gardens.
