Fleshy sandwort as seen at left on rock outcrops around the Bigelow Lakes, Siskiyou National Forest......July 14, 2012. Eremogone congesta var. congesta is also found in the vicinity. Both are very similar with the primary difference being leaf size. The latter has thread-like leaf blades that are 3-8 cm long while var. crassula has needle-like leaf blades from 1-3 cm long. Unfortunately, the photos don't clearly show the length of the leaves. The photo at right shows a close-up sideview of the inflorescence of fleshy sandwort as seen on rock outcrops around the Bigelow Lakes, Siskiyou National Forest.......July 14, 2012.

Fleshy sandwort observed along the Pacific Crest Trail about 2 miles southwest of Red Buttes, Klamath National Forest, Siskiyou County, CA......July 14, 2020. The basal leaves are about one-half the length of the similar variety congesta.
