Habitat:
Open woods, forest understory in moist, well drained soils.
Characteristics:
1. Tree grows to 50 feet tall. The trunk may be as much as 20" in diameter.
2. Leaves are alternate on the stems. They are 2-6" long, being oblong to oblong-elliptical in shape. The leaves are dark glossy green above, with a paler smooth survace felow. The leaf margins are entire (smooth).
