Lodgepole Pine
Pinus contorta var. murrayana
The photo above shows new growth of needles
and pollen cones at the branch tips of lodgepole pine as seen on the ridgetop
(about 4100') that divides Cougar and Dairy Creeks at the southeastern corner
of Mt. Adams..............June 12, 2005. This species of pine usually has two
needles per bundle with the needles measuring from 3-6 cm long. The seed cones
measure 4-6 cm long and are somewhat lopsided at the base.

lodgepole pine as seen along the Island Springs Trail #66 to the east of Little
