Carex filifolia var. filifolia
Synonyms: Carex elyniformis, Carex exserta, Carex filifolia, Carex filifolia var. erostrata
The cespitosae (clumped habit) of threadleaf sedge can easily be seen in this photo. Note also the single inflorescence spikes. Harder to see are the involute (blade edges rolled upwards) which gives the appearance of thread-like leaves. Photographed in Rowena Dell about 150 meters east of Rowena Creek and about 70 meters south of the cliff rim overlooking the Columbia River, Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.........March 31, 2016.

Close-ups of the single spikes of flowers found on threadleaf sedge. Note the small cluster of staminate flowers at the top of the spike, with the numerous female flowers below. Note also that the 3 stigmas per flower, especially visible poking out from behind the bracts lower in the spike.
