Pacific Woodrush: Luzula comosa var. laxa - Inflorescence open, umbellate, consisting of cylindrical or oblong spikes of clustered flowers. Tepals light to medium brown.

Prairie Woodrush: Luzula subsessilis - Flowers in clustered spikes forming a single head (not umbellate). Tepals dark brown or blackish.
