A large beaver lodge seen on the Oregon shore of the Columbia River Gorge.............November 1, 2013. The lodge is in a small bay with deep water to the entrance. Half the lodge is atop muddy or sandy ground while the other half lies atop a basalt spine. The lodge itself is probably about 50 feet long or so.
Evidence of beaver herbivory. Chew marks on bigleaf maples (Acer macrophyllum) along the Klickitat River between the Fisher Hill Bridge and Pitt. Klickitat County, WA......January 10, 2023.
