Bog St. John's wort is a low, spreading perennial with many prostrate stems, which root at the nodes. Any erect stems range from 5-15 cm high. The stems may be simple or branched. The leaves are ovate, elliptic, or obovate, and range in length from 5-15 mm. The leaves slightly clasp the stems, and have 5-7 veins.
The cymes are leafy, few-flowered, with small yellow flowers. The flowers are rarely 6-8 mm wide. The sepals are unequal, ovate-elliptic in shape, and range from 2-3 mm long. The 5 salmon-yellow petals are 5-6 mm long and ovate in shape. The 15-25 stamens are longer than the sepals.
Bog St. John's wort may be found on moist ground from the coast to well up in the mountains.
Bog St. John's Wort is found from British Columbia south to Baja California and east to Montana.
In the Columbia River Gorge, it may be found between the elevations of 800'-4300' from east of Crown Pt and Cape Horn east to about Lyle, WA.
