The Genus Sagina

 


Trailing Pearlwort, Western Pearlwort: Sagina decumbens ssp. occidentalis (Synonym: Sagina occidentalis) - Leaves not in a basal rosette nor in tight bundles or clusters. Pedicels and calyx weakly glandular. Flowers with 5 sepals and petals. Petals roughly equal to the sepals. Plants erect to ascending.

Bird-eye Pearlwort, Procumbent Pearlwort: Sagina procumbens (Synonym: Sagina procumbens var. compacta) - Plants with leaves in a basal rosette or in tight bundles or clusters. Pedicels and calyx glabrous. Flowers with 4 or 5 sepals and petals, or the petals absent. The petals are roughly half the length of the sepals. Plants with prostrate to ascending stems that root at the nodes.
