The photo above shows mountain big sagebrush
as seen on the south-facing slopes of the Ridge of Wonders at the southeastern
corner of Mt. Adams..........July 30, 2005. This species may be
found at this location between the elevations of 5500-6500', with the bulk of
the plants below 6000'.

can be identified in part because the top of the shrub appears fairly flat.
The
photo above shows the south-facing slopes of the Ridge of Wonders on Mt. Adams
with numerous mountain big sagebrush visible with its silvery blue-green foliage
and emerging, erect inflorescences evident here. Note the numerous sagebrush
on slopes in the distance. In addition, a large quantity of Artemisia douglasiana grows alongside the big sagebrush. The lupine seen here is Lupinus
sericeus ssp. sericeus var. flexuosus. The yellow flowers
are Hieracium scouleri.
