Leafybract aster as seen on southwest-facing slopes between Tiffany Lake and Middle Tiffany Mountain, Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.......July 28, 2018. This variety typically has one, or occasionally several flower heads per stem, and has broad, leafy involucral bracts as seen here.

A close-up of the flower head of what I believe to be leafybract aster (var. foliaceum) as seen at Dark Meadows, Dark Divide, Gifford Pinchot National Forest..........July 3, 2015. I'm not 100% sure this is the correct variety, and if not, then it should be var. parryi. Note however, the outer involucral bracts that are a bit longer and broader, and thus more leaf like, which is one characteristic of var. foliaceum.
