Tall Mountain-dandelion, Tall Agoseris
Agoseris x elata
The photo above shows a close-up view of the achene of tall
agoseris. The beak is less than twice as long as the achene in this species. Note that the achene tapers gradually to the long thin beak. In other
words, the achene is not squared-off where it meets the beak, which helps separate
this species from spear-leaf agoseris (Agoseris retrorsa). The leaves of this species are long, oblanceolate, and only slightly lobed or toothed. Photographed along the Willard Springs Trail in Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge..........August 17, 2007.
