The photo above shows a close-up of the flowers
of common St. John's-wort at the Mt. Adams Viewpoint on Rd #23 on August 6,
2005. Note the numerous black spots (blackish glands) around the edges of the
petals.
Where This Species May be Found on Mt. Adams:
Common St. John's-wort may be found in disturbed areas, especially
along roads, generally below 4000'. I have yet to see it along any roads on
the north and northeastern side of Mt. Adams, although that doesn't mean it's not there.

The photo above shows a stem leaf of common
St. John's-wort at the Mt. Adams Viewpoint on Rd #23 on August 6, 2005. It is
not easy to see here, but with a hand lens, one can notice numerous minute,
circular areas in the leaf blade which let light through, hence the species
name perforatum.
