The photo above shows the ternately compound
(3 leaflets) leaf of blackcap, as seen at the trailhead for the Snipes Mt. Trail
on the southern slopes of Mt. Adams...........October 22, 2005. Occasionally,
the leaf might be palmately compound with 4-5 leaflets, arranged reminiscent
to those of Himalayan blackberry.
The photo above shows the sharp prickles of
blackcap, as seen at the trailhead for the Snipes Mt. Trail on the southern
slopes of Mt. Adams...........October 22, 2005. The prickles are somewhat
flattened side to side, and also somewhat hooked. Note also the whitish bloom that covers the stems, which helps differentiate this species from the others.
