The photo above shows a close-up view of the
upper pair of leaves and flower of this unidentified starwort as seen at Bench Lake
on the eastern slopes of Mt. Adams..........................July 17, 2006. Note
the deeply cleft petals which are much shorter than the sepals.
Unidentified species of starwort from Bench
Lake. This species was also seen along the Island Springs Trail #66 where it
crosses and parallels Hellroaring Creek. The plant above was found in very moist
soils amongst mosses along Bench Lake..............July 17, 2006.
The above photo and the following 3 photos represent plants found
about 1000' higher in elevation amongst moss next to running water from Island
Springs on the Ridge of Wonders.........................August 12, 2006. Note
how short the bi-lobed petals are in relation to the sepals.
