This is former variety viscosa which is densely covered with gland-tipped hairs onthe calyces, pedicels and stems as seen here. The photo at right shows a close-up view of the flower.

Menzies' silene as seen growing in mixed oak/ ponderosa pine woodlands at an informal campground along the Klickitat River, just downstream of where the River Route Road crosses to the eastbank of the Klickitat River.........May 26, 2008. Note the hairs along the stems and margins of the leaf.
