along the Klickitat Hatchery Road to the east of Glenwood, WA.........July
2, 2006. This species which is common in the eastern Columbia River Gorge (to
the east of the Klickitat River) can be found westward to about 1 mile east
of Glenwood, WA and northward to near the Yakima-Klickitat County Line.

These two photos show close-up views of the flower
of velvet lupine as seen along the Klickitat Hatchery Road. Note how the banner
is pressed forward closely atop the wings and keel and how the pedicel and calyx
is densely covered with long, spreading hairs. June 18, 2006.
