The photo at left shows the gland-covered corolla and calyx of finetooth penstemon. The photo at right shows a close-up frontal view of a flower of finetooth penstemon. The tip of the staminode is yellow-bearded and is about equal to or shorter than the mouth of the flower tube. The anther sacs are barely visible at the top of the tube.
