17, 2005. Each flower lacks petals, the balls that are seen consisting
of numerous, white stamens and styles.
The photo above shows a close-up side-view of the inflorescence
of tassel-rue as seen at an area of moist seeps and marshes at about 4300' atop
the ridge that separates the Cougar and Dairy Creek drainages at the southeastern
corner of Mt. Adams.........July 10, 2005. On this species, the petals are
absent and the 4-8 sepals soon fall, leaving behind a ball of long, white stamens
and a central, greenish ball styles.
