Bear's head fungi found at left on coniferous snags and logs along the Toutle Trail #238 between Sheep Canyon and the South Fork Toutle River, Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument...........October 19, 2014. This specimen has been cut off a log to show the coral-like internal structure. The image at right shows newly emerging bear's head fungi emerging from the butt end of a downed log along the Lewis River Trail #31 upstream of the Curly Creek Falls Trailhead......October 11, 2024. A western trillium and inside-out flower are at the base of the log.
