Cuban Spinach, Miner's Lettuce, Winter Purslane: Claytonia perfoliata ssp. intermontana (Synonym: Claytonia perfoliata var. intermontana)

Cuban spinach as seen in the Labyrinth in the central Columbia River Gorge..........April 10, 2010. This species has flattened to suberect basal leaves like streambank springbeauty (Claytonia parviflora ssp. parviflora), but the blades are rhombic or ovate as opposed to linear in the latter species. The similar miner's lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata ssp. perfoliata) has erect basal leaves with the blades oblanceolate, ovate or deltate.
