The photo above shows a close-up of a stem leaf of birdsfoot-trefoil. The leaves of this species are sessile with 5 lobes, the lowest pair basal and the distal trio of leaflets arising at the same point just beyond the basal pair. A stalk which bears a head of flowers arises from the leaf axil.
