[Clarkias and Godetias: The Genus Clarkia in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon and Washington]

This photo shows a close-up of the flower of common clarkia as seen along Coyote Creek Road in the Umpqua National Forest.......June 25, 2005. Each petal is greatly narrowed or clawed near its base, one of the characteristics of this species. Also note the sepals which are reflexed backwards from the petals.
