Bunchberry as seen along the Boundary Trail #1 to the east of the Johnston Ridge Observatory, Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument.........July 22, 2022. Note the pair of reduced leaves below the main whorl of leaves in the photo at right. Similar Cornus canadensis would only have much reduced, scale-like leaves at that position. Note that only Washington currently (2022) separates out C. canadensis as a separate, second species.
