The Genus Achlys

Deer's-foot: Achlys californica - Deerfoot, Deer's-foot, Northern Vanilla-leaf, Sweet-after-death, Vanillaleaf, Vanilla Leaf: Achlys triphylla (Synonyms: Achlys triphylla ssp. triphylla, Leontice triphylla)

Note: both of these species may grow next to one another.

Deer's-foot: Achlys californica - Central leaflet 6-8 lobed, 7-16 cm long and 8-17 cm wide. Tetraploid.

Deerfoot, Deer's-foot, Northern Vanilla-leaf, Sweet-after-death, Vanillaleaf, Vanilla Leaf: Achlys triphylla (Synonyms: Achlys triphylla ssp. triphylla, Leontice triphylla) - Central leaflet 3-5 lobed, r-11 cm long and r-8 cm wide. Diploid.
