These two photos illustrate the wildflowers to be found in dry meadows along FS Road 4011 as one drives the last seven tenths of a mile to the Deep Creek Forest Camp, Fremont-Winema National Forest.......June 30, 2019.

Overview:

Deep Creek Forest Camp offers rustic camping along forested Deep Creek. A large moist meadow can be found at the eastern edge of the campground. The campground has 4 campsites with fire rings and picnic tables located around the periphery of a wide, open parking area. There is a large vault toilet which we found to be clean and well stocked with TP during our brief visit. There is no potable water onsite. Bring water from home or sources in Lakeview, OR or filter or boil water from Deep Creek.

There are several floriferous meadows to explore along FS Rd 4015 which provides access to the campground from FS Rd 3915. The map indicates there are several old spur roads which could be explored, although we haven't done so yet.

The campground is open with USFS servicing from about May 15 to October 15. The campground can be used from late fall into spring when snow conditions allow, but bring your own water and TP. I'd guess the camp gets light usage most of the year (except perhaps on holiday weekends and during hunting season).

Access:

Drive north of Lakeview, OR on US 395. Turn right onto OR Highway 140 and cross over the Warner Mountain Summit. Descend to Camas prairie and at the first major 4-way junction, turn right onto FS Road 3915. Drive south on FS Rd 3915 for about 17 miles and turn right onto FS Rd 4011, signed for Deep Creek Campground. Drive about 0.7 miles along Rd 4011 to the entrance to the campground on the right. To my recollection, the route is well signed and shouldn't provide any problems getting there.

Warning: Google Maps includes one of those dangerous, non-sensicle routes to get to this campground via NF-3910, crossing private property (public right of way) in Big Valley east of the forest. We got lost and headed into Big Valley from the east trying to head north to OR Highway 140 and were thwarted from going that way due to a very primitive bridge decked with half-inch plywood that crosses Horse Creek ? at the north end of the valley. In addition, the aforementioned route looked brushy and more like an OHV track north and east of that bridge! Avoid that route!

Deep Creek Campground: USFS website description of the site.

Deep Creek Hike (Less Travelled Northwest) - A moderate 4.7 mile hike from Deep Creek CG up the canyon along old roads with some off trail routes if desired. Website contains good details, photos and maps of the route. I'd make a guess that one could also hike the old spur road that heads north from the trailhead on their map, but no details are given for that route.
