The photo above shows the needles and cones
of western hemlock as seen along forest road #23 above 3000' on the southwestern
slopes of Mt. Adams........October 14, 2005. The flattened leaves are
largely 2-ranked on the sides of the twigs and are of unequal lengths. All photos
on this page were taken at the same location.

of the needles of western hemlock. The photo at right shows the two broad rows of
stomatal bloom on the underside of the needles of western hemlock.

The cones measure from 1.5-2.5 cm long.
