Examples of Sitka willow as seen along the North Loop Road at the Steens Mountain, southeastern Oregon.........June 2, 2012. The site is a large moist meadow on the east side of the road (private land?) between Fish Lake and Jackman Park. Note the black bracts with rounded tips subtending both male and female flowers, the hair-covered pistils and the male flowers with single stamen with glabrous filament. A hairy filament would mean var. angustifolia which is found above 7000' on the mountain.
