Stiff-branch wirelettuce beginning to bloom along the Painted Rocks Trail which parallels the north side of the Little Spokane River, Little Spokane River Natural Area.............May 7, 2012. The site is at a point where the trail ventures uphillonto the ancient flood gravel bar about one-half mile upstream from the Downriver Drive trailhead. This species is an annual or biennial that ranges from 20-100 cm high with short, stiff side branches.
