Close-ups of the inflorescence and perigynia of Jone's sedge as seen in a riparian meadow near 8600' along the North Loop Road, Steens Mountain, Harney County, Oregon.........September 2, 2011. Note the numerous veins on and the swollen base of the perigynia as well as the stamens in the inflorescence. The similar sheep sedge (Carex illota) is gynecandrous, lacking stamens in the inflorescence.
