A close-up of the inflorescence of toad rush as seen from the Klickitat State Wildlife Area of south-central Washington..........May 27, 2009. This is the only annual rush in the Pacific Northwest that has lateral as well as terminal flowers. This is variety bufonius with scattered flowers along the stems and long tepals.

Toad rush in streamside muds at Summit Prairie, Malheur National Forest..........August 20, 2011. This appears to be variety occidentalis.
