Oregon Checker-mallow, Marsh Hollyhock
Sidalcea oregana var. maxima
The photo above shows a close-up of the inflorescence
of Oregon checker-mallow. This appears to be variety spicata. Note the
smaller hairs on the calyx. This variety seems to have very small flowers? All
photographs on this page were taken in meadows along the South Fork of the John
Day River near the intersections of forest roads 47 & 3750 in the Malheur
NF..........July 18, 1998. This variety is also common up Emmigrant
Creek about a dozen miles to the west.
The photo above shows a close-up of the blade
of a lowe leaf.
