Hidden-flowered owl clover spotted along the Fremont National Recreation Trail #160 on the northeastern corner of Crook Peak, Fremont-Winema National Forest......July 17, 2022. Note the short corollas which barely extend beyond their subtending inflorescence bracts, and are thus largely hidden from view, at least early in bloom.

What appears to be hidden-flowered owl clover as seen from vernally moist swales amongst big mountain sagebrush along the South Loop Road about 2 miles uphill from the Rooster Comb, Steens Mountain, Harney County, Oregon.......July 9, 2014. This is a tentative ID based on the corollas being shorter (hidden) than the subtending bracts. I'd want to return and measure the corolla length as this subspecies has corollas 9-12 mm long while the similar ssp. copelandii (also found atop the Steens Mt.) has corollas 12-16 mm long.
