Gentiana propinqua from the Lostine River, Wallowa-Whitman N.F............July 26. 1997.

Characteristics:

1. 4-petaled flowers are tubular, with the tips reflexed at right angles. The flowers are whitish to light blue, to light purple in color.

2. Flowers are located in loose cymes. Many flowers are axillary.

3. Stems are erect.

4. The basal leaves are oblanceolate while those on the stems are ovate-lanceolate.


Habitat:

Four-parted Gentian is found in meadows and moist shady woods.


Range:

Four-parted Gentian is found from Alaska, southwards through the Rocky Mts of British Columbia and Alberta to Montana, and eastwards to Quebec and Newfoundland. In addition, populations exist in the Wallowa Mts of northeast Oregon.
