Cushion Buckwheat

Eriogonum kennedyi var. alpigenum

Eriogonum kennedyi var. alpigenum from my rock garden.........early July, 1997.

Characteristics:

A small, prostrate, mat-forming Buckwheat. Both surfaces of the small, spatulate leaves are silvery haired. The flower stalks lack leaves and bear several pinkish flowers at their tip.


Habitat:

Sagebrush desert to open mountain slopes.


Range:

Cushion buckwheat is found both north and south of the Mohave Desert of California.
